The Diversity of Light

Oftentimes when introducing the lights to someone new, we are asked:

“What are they good for? Can they help with xyz?”

While the simple answers to these questions are “everything” and “yes”, this isn’t exactly what people want to hear. Sitting in a room full of people learning about the lights for the first time at one of our Discover the Revitalizing Power of Light events, it is very easy to spot the skeptics – the people who are rolling their eyes wondering how one device can help with so many things. You can see them begin to shut down and start seeing us as the proverbial ‘snake oil salesman’.

While we may not be able to convince everyone that the lights work, the research can. Type “light therapy research” into your favorite search engine and you’ll be presented with approximately 12 – 14 million results. Yes, you read that right – MILLION. If you want to be more clinical in your search, visit www.pubmed.gov and search for “light therapy”. You’ll quickly be presented with over 70,000 research articles and studies that have been published in various medical and scientific journals, meaning that they were written and completed by doctors & scientists.

The research is irrefutable. Since the invention of lasers over 40 years ago, the use of both visible and near infrared light has been known to reduce pain, inflammation and edema, promote the healing or wounds, deep tissue and nerves, and prevent tissue damage.

These days, you’d be hard-pressed to find a chiropractor, physical therapist, sports medicine clinic, rehabilitation clinic or spa that does not offer light therapy as a treatment option.

Clinical use is as varied as the types of medical doctors; lights of some form are currently used by physical therapists, dentists, dermatologists, orthopedists, chiropractors and veterinarians, as well as many other specialists and general practitioners.

One look at the brief listing above and its plain to see that light therapy has incredibly diverse applications. We’ve just launched a new page in our LEARN section, where we have compiled several research studies & clinical trials on the efficacy of using light to assist with a variety of conditions. On this page, you’ll find links to research on using light for acne, allergies, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, depression, improving attention, improving sleep, fibromyalgia, pain control, skin rejuvenation, even weight loss & body contouring, and many other conditions.  Be sure to check it out here.
